Music conference at Huddersfield

Saturday 27th Sonic Arts Network
And so up at a relatively early hour on a Saturday to get over to the Sonic Arts Network meeting in Huddersfield. Speed restrictions on the M62 due to "animals loose on road" - well we did go through a stretch of road covered in chicken poo and feathers so that probably explains it. past the stone roses to enter "enemy territory" and on to Hudds.
This was a very interesting day with a chance to meet a number of thoughtful and imaginative new music composers working in fields like electro-acoustic and acousmatic music, with a bit of theremin / analogue thrown in for good measure.
Pieces presented by Lisa Whistlecroft, Piers Quick, Steve Benner, Peter de Moncey, Nikos Stavropoulos, David Hindmarsh and Coryn Smethurst. Even 5.1 surround sound doesn't do justice to some of these compositions designed to be played back on systems using over 100 speakers. A good incentive to get down to Birmingham (where some are PG students) and hear them properly.
We have a link to one of the pieces, a video soundtrack composed for some underwater natural history video.
